If you are experienced 5k’er and want to finally break that 25, 20, 16min barrier - we have lots of athletes that can group together and help get you over the line.

How

  • 2–4 heats, seeded by predicted 5k time (or recent parkrun or vibes)

  • Each heat will be timed by our volunteers so you just need to run - we will put on a few pacers too to help the group hit times, shared effort for the win.

Example heat splits:

  • Heat 1: sub-20

  • Heat 2: 20–24

  • Heat 3: 25-30

  • Heat 4: 30+

Why Every Runner Should Do Speed Work

No matter your goal — 5km, marathon, ultra, or triathlon — speed work makes you better.

Running faster in controlled efforts:

  • Improves running economy (you use less energy at all paces)

  • Builds strength and resilience

  • Raises your aerobic ceiling

  • Improves form and efficiency

  • Makes race pace feel more comfortable

Speed work isn’t about being “quick”. It’s about becoming more efficient.

And efficiency helps at every distance.

It’s Not Just for “Fast” Runners

The benefits apply whether you’re:

  • Targeting a 30-minute 5km

  • Chasing sub-20

  • Building back fitness

  • Or preparing for long-distance racing

Speed sessions scale to ability. The stimulus is what matters — not the pace.

Why a 5km Block Is Perfect Preparation

A structured 5km block gives you:

  • Consistent, purposeful sessions

  • Clear progression week to week

  • A measurable goal at the end

  • Sharper pacing awareness

  • Confidence under fatigue

Even if your main target is a marathon, half, ultra, or long-course triathlon — sharpening up over 5km improves your engine.

You don’t lose endurance.
You raise your ceiling.

Then when you return to longer work, everything feels smoother.

The VA Way

Coach-led. Structured. Supportive.
No egos. Just consistent work done properly.

Because better runners aren’t built by mileage alone — they’re built by quality.
