Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL)
As a club, we take part in the Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) — a series of friendly, well-organised road races across the year. We do it not for medals or pressure, but because it brings people together and gives our training a bit of purpose.
HRRL races are about turning up, wearing the vest, and supporting each other — whether you’re at the sharp end, in the middle of the pack, or crossing the line with a smile and a chat.
You don’t need to be “fast” to take part. Every runner counts towards the team, and every finish matters. For many of us, HRRL is a first taste of racing — low-key, welcoming, and far less intimidating than it sounds.
Why we do it
It gives training a focus without pressure
It’s a great excuse for team days out and post-race coffees
It helps you discover what you’re capable of (often without realising it)
It builds shared experiences — not just results
Why you should give it a go
Racing doesn’t mean sprinting from the gun or chasing PBs. It can simply mean running with purpose, learning how your body responds, and finishing something you’ve committed to.
Many people are surprised to find that racing actually:
Improves confidence
Makes training feel more meaningful
Helps pacing and consistency
Feels easier than expected when you’re surrounded by teammates
If you can run the distance, you can race it. Simple as that.
No pressure. No expectations.
You can do one race or several. You can jog, push, walk bits, or surprise yourself.
The only real goal is to be part of it.
We celebrate effort, not positions — and everyone who pulls on the vest is contributing to the team.
